The 7 lessons of the program will walk you through all the most common pronunciation mistakes.
The exercises in each lesson will guide and train you to pronounce Italian sounds correctly.
Italian vowels are the Achilles' heel of English speakers learning Italian. Simply because English and Italian treat vowel sounds very differently!
In this unit we will learn how to understand, recognise and fix your mistakes.
The exercises will allow you to build fluid vowel articulation.
This lesson covers the blending of vowel sounds to form unique diphthongs, often overlooked but crucial for accurate pronunciation. Gain confidence with words like "ciao," "piacere," "uomo," and "fiore," and practice with exercises designed to perfect your skills.
Some consonants English and Italian share seem familiar, and lure you into a false sense of security. Because others turn out to be very different. In this lesson you will learn to pronounce tricky letters and understand how certain consonants change sounds in specific contexts.
The exercises cover the most challenging sounds and train you to pronounce the Italian sounds, instead of their English equivalents you are used to!
Discover the importance of double consonants in Italian, where length and intensity matter. Unlike English, Italian distinguishes between single and double consonants, and mispronouncing them can change the meaning of words entirely.
Italian letter clusters can be challenging, and if not covered at the beginning, hinder progress well into fluency! These combinations produce unique sounds that differ from their individual letters. Clusters like "sci", "sche," "ghi," "ghe," "gn," and "gli" each have distinct pronunciations essential for mastering Italian. This lesson helps you understand and practice these special combinations.
Stressing the wrong syllable is a common mistake for all learners of Italian. In this lesson, you'll learn about Italian stress patterns and will be able to identify and correctly place stress in Italian words. We'll cover the rules, the exceptions, and how to make sure you remember the stress placement of every new word that you add to your Vocabulary notebook!
Incorrect intonation can make or break communication in Italian. This is not advanced magic. As a learner of Italian you might be so concentrated on getting your vocabulary, grammar and sentence structure right, that intonation can be (and usually is) the last thing on your mind. But it really shouldn't be. Find out why and build correct intonation patterns with the exercises.
It is probably the most common request from students to give them a system to master the pronunciation of the words that they find particularly challenging in Italian.
These can be apparently simple words like "aereo" 🛫 or whimsical tongue-twisters like "quaquaraquà".

While VivaVoce is designed specifically for English speakers, non-English speakers who face similar pronunciation challenges will also find it beneficial, as most of the pitfalls would apply to them as well. The focus on Italian pronunciation is universal.
What if I am a complete beginner? Is it a premature step for me?
Not at all!
VivaVoce is designed to be accessible for complete beginners. The course starts with the basics and gradually builds up, and most importantly, it leverages cognates, to make things super easy.
Cognates are words in English and Italian similar in sound, spelling and meaning and they are a huge help for beginners and elementary learners. Not to mention “free” additions to your vocabulary notebook.
